PCT - INTERNATIONAL PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION OF PCT PATENT APPLICATIONS

On 1 April 2002, the term for entering the national/regional phase under Chapter I of the PCT was extended from 20 months to 30 months. Since 3 January 2002, applicants using the EPO as the International Preliminary Examination Authority have had the option of a detailed or a simplified examination. In addition, as of 1 March 2002 the EPO will no longer perform International Searches or International Preliminary Examination for certain subject matter where the USPTO is the Receiving Office.
